At TASTE Black Gold, we’re passionate about truffles and the creation and supply of premium quality truffle products. We are developing a broad range of black truffle products and black truffle inspired foodstuffs for commercial or private resale using black truffle from the southwest of Western Australia. We’ve poured our heart and soul into our entire family of truffle products and hope that you enjoy relishing them as much as we’ve enjoyed making them.
Taste Black Gold was a established in 2015 by the two of us – Kane and Michelle. WE sell our products online and also attend a few markets in Perth on a regular basis.
Our story starts when we moved to Denmark, probably the prettiest town in Western Australia and certainly the greenest (both climatically and philosophically), in 1994 from Perth. We moved here to build what turned out to be Denmark’s iconic hospitality lodge, Chimes Spa Retreat. We owned and operated this business for 21 years before finally selling in 2016. Michelle then joined Kane at Taste Black Gold which he had created in 2014.
Kane is a seasoned executive with over 30 years’ experience in the small business sector. He set up T.A.S.T.E. in 2008 and built a nursery in 2008/9 to research how to grow truffle trees. He closed the nursery in 2015 but has retained the IP. The downstream processing of truffles commenced in 2015 with Taste Black Gold and Kane’s current role encompasses all aspects of the business operations, requiring him to act in various capacities.
In 1995, with his wife Michelle, he built, managed and operated a tourist accommodation facility in Denmark Western Australia, Chimes Spa Retreat, until it was sold in 2016.
In the five years prior, Kane was Managing Director of Showoff!, an expo and show market business he founded, developed and exited to a larger marquee hire company.
From 1977 to 1987 he managed various commercial helicopter contracts in the UK, Middle East, PNG, and Australia. During this period he was a founder and Managing Director of a helicopter service which started Australia’s first public helicopter shuttle service in Fremantle, where his role as Operations Manager of Barrack Helicopters continued until 1987.
From 1968 to 1976 Kane commanded various helicopter flights in several theatres.
Kane was the first direct entry commissioned officer into the British Army Air Corps in 1966.
Michelle entered university with a desire to teach. She left with a Dip Ed and a year on the job before deciding on an early career change. Deciding to train as a beautician and after a period of training in Europe, Michelle joined her mother’s day spa business in Applecross to consolidate her retail day spa management skills.
When her mother sold the business, Michelle continued in a management role before leaving to operate her own beauty salon. After moving to Denmark in 1995 and building Chimes Spa Retreat, she managed this hospitality business for 21 years until 2016 and during that time built a day spa and WA’s first Hamam (Turkish bath).
